James J. Gusella CCM – Chief Operating Officer/GM
Jim Gusella brings 25+ years of Hospitality Management experience to Fairmount Country Club. Following positions in the restaurant and sports management industries after college, Jim began his career in club management at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD, where he helped lead the Food & Beverage team as the F&B Service Manager. After Congressional, Jim held the Clubhouse Manager position at clubs in New Hampshire and Cape Cod, MA prior to being recruited to the Country Club of Detroit as Director of Operations in 2007. From there, Jim spent two seasons at the Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh, PA, where he led a team of 300+ employees. He has spent the last 4 1/2 years at Inverness Golf Club outside of Chicago as their Chief Operating Officer/General Manager.
Jim is a member of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) and earned his Certified Club Manager (CCM) in 2013. He is currently working toward Honor Society status and the Certified Club Executive (CCE) designation. Jim is also a member of the International Wine Society and earned his Level I Sommelier through the Master Court of Sommeliers in 2014. Jim is a dedicated student of the hospitality/club management industry and has successfully completed all five Business Management Institutes through CMAA, the most recent being BMI Strategic Leadership this fall at the SC Johnson School of Hotel Management at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Club management runs in the Gusella family. Jim’s wife, Katie, is an Assistant General Manager, and his brother Bob is also a longtime GM, currently serving at a club in Houston, TX. Additionally, his mother Marlene worked in the industry for many years and has just recently retired from Congressional Country Club after serving for 16 years as their Director of Catering. On a personal note, Jim and Katie have two Old English Bulldogs (Slash and Mia) that keep them busy when they are not at their clubs. In their spare time, Jim and Katie enjoy traveling and visiting the northeast (Jim grew up in Connecticut, and Katie in New Hampshire), and they are very much look forward to coming “home”.
Troy Goldberg – Assistant General Manager
Upon graduating from the County College of Morris with a Hospitality Management degree in 2005, Troy began his career by working at Baltusrol Golf Club, one of the most prestigious clubs in the entire world. While at Baltusrol, Troy learned how to be a hospitality professional by assisting with fine dining, banquets, and outings. Troy became part of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) which helped him grow his career with assistance from other hospitality professionals. Troy received his first Management job in Deal, NJ at Hollywood Golf Club. There he learned how to manage staff, create schedules, create food and beverage menus, and conduct effective training methods. All of Troy’s hard work paid off when he was selected to be the Assistant General Manager of Fairmount Country Club in Chatham, NJ. While at Fairmount, Troy learned how to effectively manage inventory, increase the club’s liquor and wine programs, and manage the club’s payroll. Troy’s energy and passion for his work has helped him succeed and has created a warm, comfortable environment in and around the club.
